Contest" winners!
"When
our son was 14, he got a job at North Forty Golf
Course. At that time my husband and I started a
"date night" by eating out at Runza (on 56th and
Holdrege) on Thursday Nights while our son was working.
That was 12 years ago. We still eat out each Thursday
night, but now we eat at the Runza at 84th and Holdrege.
We are now joined by my husband's brother and his
wife, a friend and his wife from my husband's work,
their son and daughter-in-law and my husband's cousin.
Each Thursday night the 9 of us meet and dine together.
So our "date night" has turned into a friendly gathering
of friends. Thank You Runza!!"
"Enjoying
the Runza onion rings, extra crispy, along with
one of their delicious, mouth watering cheese burgers.
Totally enjoyed my runza meal, eye appealing, positively
top of the taste-buds satisfactory!! Very positive
customer service."
"We
just love Runza's so much, but we live so far away
from them. When we go to Omaha to get them, we buy
about 3 or 4 DOZEN frozen Runzas and put them in
the freezer at home so we can have a Runza whenever
we want for a long time. Nothing satisfies like
a Runza."
"I
just recently moved to Indiana. I can't believe
how much I miss Runza! When I came back I ate Runza
every night for a week! I LOVE IT!!"
"I
live in AZ and I come to NE for a week each summer
and I try to eat at Runza everyday I am there. Also,
the first time I brought my husband, I tricked him
and told him the cabbage was lettuce so that he
would eat them and now he is more addicted to them
then I am. Let us open a franchise here, please....."
"My
most memorable story was when I was coming home
on leave to Nebraska from the Navy (there are 3
Runzas in my hometown of Hastings). I asked my best
friend to bring me three Runzas to the airport so
Runza would be the first thing I saw/ate when I
got off the plane in Omaha, NE. It was the greatest
thing ever. I had been gone from Nebraska for 8
months and that was the best welcome home gift I
could ever think of. Thank you Runza for making
my coming home memorable! I am stationed out in
Washington and thinking right now of how I can get
some frozen Runzas shipped out to me!"
"My
most memorable Runza experience involves Husker
football and of course Runza! About eight months
ago I moved to the warm state of Arizona and started
to crave Runza sandwiches. I was so sad that I could
not get one in Arizona. However, I knew that I would
be attending a Husker football game in the following
month and that I could get a Runza at the game!
When I got to Memorial Stadium I rushed to the first
Runza stand I saw and bit into a fresh, hot sandwich.
I honestly would have paid $10 for that sandwich
:) My day kept getting better when the Huskers won
the game! Now that I am living in Nebraska once
again, I eat at Runza often and have always had
a great experience."
"My
husband and I were young, just out of college and
had just married and we lived out of state. Runzas
were everywhere at home (Council Bluffs/Omaha) but
not so available in our new home city. We missed
going to them! Then one day we stumbled upon one
and we were thrilled. It gave us a touch of our
old home growing up in our new home as a married
couple. Runzas not only have great food they are
a comfortable place to go."
"My
most memorable Runza memory was when I was pregnant
with my 2nd child and I was craving vanilla ice
cream. It was closing time and they had already
shut down the machine. The manager was nice enough
to start it back up to give me my ice cream fresh!!!"
"The
last time we went to Runza it took 6 hours and 27
min. We rationed a package of cookies (about 2 every
half hour) so we could eat lunch at Runza. When
we got there and ordered, our legs felt cramped
so we ate our Runza's standing up. Several people
who passed us pointed out empty seats. One family
told us they would be finished soon and we could
have their booth. Surprisingly a group of bikers
got up, cleaned their table, pulled out some chairs,
and stood in a row between us and the table while
motioning for us to sit down. Although other seats
were available to us the whole time all we could
think about was eating our RUNZA'S."
"I
took my 13 month old son to Runza one day. I ordered
him chicken strips and myself a Swiss mushroom Runza.
I began feeding him first and got him situated.
Then I began eating and, of course, he had to have
some of my food. I gave him a piece of my Runza
and he loved it, mushrooms and all! He wouldn't
eat any of his chicken strips! He loved it so much
he took he finger and got some of the swiss cheese
off my wrapper!"
"I've
loved Runza all my life. Over the years I still
eat there at least twice a week. If I go out of
town, Runza is my first stop on the way home. I've
even planned road trips so that we hit at least
one Runza on the way. It may make for a longer trip,
but it is worth it for my Runza's!"
"I
was born and raised in Omaha and have always loved
Runza! Sadly, we left Omaha nearly 20 years ago
and are now in northwest Indiana . . . 500 miles
away from the nearest Runza. Throughout the years
we have continued to make frequent trips back home
though, along with newly added family members (spouses
and children alike). We also strongly lean on new
members to convert (to Husker football, of course!)
and to also try a Runza. So far, we have a perfect
record! Last summer, my husband and I came back
for my 20 year high school reunion. He was training
for an upcoming marathon at the time. When we had
a few hours at the hotel before the evening's festivities,
he had a choice . . . eat Runza take-out (a tradition
he has enjoyed for over 15 years now) or go out
and get his daily run in. The choice was simple.
Runza won out and I can happily say his marathon
experience didn't suffer because of his indulgence
that August day. :-)"
"I
went to college in New York, and Runza's were one
of the things I missed most about Nebraska. They're
very hard to describe to people who have never seen
or had them. So I decided to bring some back with
me. I froze them, and the airport made me put them
in my checked luggage. I was so nervous about them
arriving safely, but they did. When I got my luggage,
the first thing I did was to pull the Runza's out
and show my boyfriend. Unthinkingly, I then put
them on top of the car and we drove off. I was heartbroken
when I figured out what I did and had to wait 4
months until I could finally bring them for my friends
to try, but when I did it was completely worth it.
- Jessica"
"For
me the story starts in the third grade - I went
to my first Nebraska Cornhusker football game at
Memorial Stadium. You see I grew up in Oakland Nebraska
and fast food restaurants where one of the perks
of visiting the city's shopping mall food court.
Runza wasn't my first choice or even on my radar.
At half time of the Husker beat down of Northern
Illinois that fall Saturday afternoon while walking
with my Dad I ordered the familiar slice of sausage
pizza. My father decided he was in the mood for
a Runza. I asked, "What is a Runza?" My father described
the ingredients and I made a funny face. I thought
a Runza sounded terrible. Thanks for the pizza.
My dad ordered a Runza from the vendor and offered
a bite. I tried it and immediately asked for another.
Instead my dad ordered another for me. The pizza
ended up in the garbage. I will always remember
the day because of my first Husker football experience
but the Runza is a detail of the day as important
as any other. I can't wait for the days when my
son and I can create the same experiences. - Chris"
"It
was a cold and windy night. My wife and I had been
on the move all day and were about out of energy
and SERIOUSLY hungry. We ran through several dinner
ideas and hit on RUNZA! Two combo meals later (Cheese
Runza w/fries and Swiss-Cheese Mushroom w/rings)
our engines were stoked and we were almost ready
to face the world again. Almost... but not before
a delicious chocolate shake for dessert. We left
full, warm, happy and satisfied. Thanks Runza!"
"Whenever
I fly home, the first place I go to is Runza. When
I leave I have to bring some with me (usually 10)
as carry-on. When ever any of my friends visit me
out here I always make them bring frozen Runzas!
Currently I have 10 Runzas in the freezer and am
heating one up right now in the oven. A little bit
of home out here in the great northwest!"
What
is your most memorable "Runza experience?"
"We
have family in Minnesota and Colorado. My favorite
thing is driving through Nebraska and stopping for
a mushroom swiss Runza. It always gives me something
to look forward to on the 12 hour drive. So - you
can see - each time we stop at a Runza it is memorable.
We love Runza!!"
"Our
daughter (who is now 19) and I would stop at Runza
almost every time we were in Lincoln, NE when she
was little because Runza had the best onion rings!
Sometimes we would just go through the drive through
so we could get onion rings even if we weren't getting
full meals! They were a snack! It was one of our
favorite things to do together! Memories!"
"I
was born and raised in Lincoln and was out of high
school when I had my first Runza. I LOVED it from
the first bite. I moved to Tucson Arizona in 1988
and had cravings for Runzas, but no Runza. I tried
contacting numerous stores back in Lincoln to see
if anyplace still carried the frozen Runzas (remember
them?, there were 2 to a package)but no luck. I
then contacted Runza Headquarters to see if they
wanted to expand to Tucson, but got a very nice
letter thanking me for my interest but Arizona was
not yet in their expansion plans. Well after not
being back in Lincoln (or even in Nebraska) for
16 years I was there for my nephews graduation this
past June. The only thing I could think of on the
plane ride was getting a Runza. Well I landed and
the first place I went after leaving the airport
was of course Runza. Then for the next 3 days I
had Runzas for lunch and dinner and a couple late
night treats. Well I am craving Runzas again and
may have to return to Nebraska to satisfy that craving.
I am hoping I can get a few dozen to pack and bring
back to Arizona when I do get back to Nebraska.
My utmost respect to Runza for continuing their
high quality food. I'll always be a loyal fan (and
customer when I am near a Runza). Keep it up guys,
you are the BEST."
"Coming
from Chicago, I obviously never experienced Runza.
But once I was introduced by a friend, I couldn't
stop. When my family came to visit me, Runza was
one of the first places I took them and giving them
that first-time experience was priceless. Nothing
like chowing down on cheese Runzas with my dad!"
"I
have just moved back to Nebraska after 20 years
away and I have been going to Runza all the time!
There were days when I would realize that I was
hungry for a Runza, realize I was 1000 miles away
from the nearest one and feel like crying. While
I lived far away, whenever I was home on visit,
I would go to Runza. One day in the drive thru,
one of the employees noticed my New York license
plates and asked how I knew about Runza. I said,
'It says New York on the outside, it's all Cornhusker
on the inside. NOW GIMME MY RUNZAS!'"
"After
I had my youngest daughter 10 years ago, we were
on our way home from the hospital with her and my
husband asked me what I was hungry for. I told him
I wanted a Runza so we stopped and ate and I enjoyed
each and every bite. I would appreciate the opportunity
to take my family to Lawrence and eat out at Runza
so they can know what good fast food really tastes
like."
"My
husband is from France and when we first met, we
went to Runza so I could show him my favorite place
for french fries (as it's so American). We went
and he loved the fries too. So now, whenever we
go, we call Runza "our place" because that is the
place we shared a meal together and my husband's
first meal in the USA."
"When
I was little we lived close to the Runza @ 56th
& Holdrege and at the time there was a laundromat
next door. Well my poor mom had to drag us there
once a week to do the laundry and the 'bribe' was
always, 'If you're good... you can get some French
fries!' Let me tell you, we were always good. Still
to this day my favorite thing is Runza fries with
onion ring dip :)"
"I
have always enjoyed going to Runza with my parents.
My dad loved Runza Chili. He passed away this May,
but I have started a new tradition of taking my
1 year old son."
"I
remember growing up in Lincoln, NE. My mother and
I love Runza soo much that whenever we had the chance
we would stop at Runza. My favorite one is the Swiss
Mushroom Runza. We later moved to Grand Island,
NE. And thank God, they had one too. Even my little
sister has come to love Runza. I have now lived
in the Northeast corner of Kansas for 7 years, and
the closest Runza's were Nebraska City, NE and Lawrence,
KS. Both a little far to drive even though I craved
them all the time. Whenever I went to visit family
in GI, or Lincoln that's where I went at least twice
while I was there. And now just this last week to
be exact. A Runza opened up in Falls City, NE. Only
a 15 min drive. THANK YOU soooo much for bringing
my FAVORITE restaurant closer to my home. I know
I will visit at least once a week."
"Runza
is the ONLY fast food that I eat. I've always hated
McDonalds and Burger King, but Runza is the best.
The burgers actually look and taste homemade, the
fries are ALWAYS fresh and hot, and the slushy machine
at 168th and Center Street in Omaha has always made
it soo much easier for me to get through my work
day. Fast and friendly service, the best fast food
in the entire state, and it's always as clean as
can be. Keep up the great work!"
"My
favorite memory of Runza is also my favorite memory
of my mom. I was living in Detroit in 1986, where
I might add, they don't have Runzas. I came back
home to Lincoln, NE to visit my mom and we drove
out to a little drive-up Runza place on Pioneer
Blvd. (no longer there, but I will forever remember
it). My mom and I must have sat there for about
an hour eating Runzas (Yumm) and just reminiscing
about my childhood and talking the way moms and
adult children do. I will never forget that day,
nor will I ever forget enjoying my runza. I enjoy
Runzas so much that for my 30th birthday I called
a Runza place and they shipped 50 frozen Runzas
for my friends and I to enjoy. I must say that while
in Detroit they have beef pasties they don't have
Runzas and my friends and I enjoyed them very much.
One of my friends enjoyed them so much he asked
how to get them shipped to his house. When I think
of Runzas I always think of my mom and that day
together. I have since moved back to Lincoln and
can enjoy Runzas anytime I get the craving."
"After
a full day mountain bike ride in the beautiful Colorado
mountains I was really hungry! I had only eaten
cereal and some waxy tasting energy bars. I needed
real food, and I craved Runza. I ordered my favorite
Swiss Mushroom Burger Meal Deal with Onion Rings.
It satisfied my hunger. Now, going to Runza is a
tradition after a long mountain bike ride. We were
starving."
"I
have loved Nebraska football since the late 50s
when I began going to home games. And NU football
was responsible for introducing me to the delicious
Runza menu. Sometime in the early 1970s I was sitting
in the north end zone during a bitterly cold late
season Husker game. A fellow sitting behind me had
gone out at half-time and brought back a box filled
with Runzas and passed them out to a bunch of us
fans sitting near him. At first I thought they were
great because they retained their heat so well and
served as wonderful handwarmers. Then, in the third
quarter, I took my first bite and have been hooked
ever since. We are regulars at the Runza at 108th
and Q Street in Omaha and love your entire menu.
And we still love to eat Runzas during the Husker
games!"
"On
Valentines day my mom my dad and I had Runza. We
got it take out and we came home. When we got home
we pulled the table out and lit some candles. We
dimmed the light and tried to make it seam like
an expensive restaurant. We dumped all the fries
out on a fancy plate in the center of the table
and got all our food in our section. That night
was really fun because we got to eat Runza and we
ate it together in a candle light dinner. I will
never forget that memory because it was a great
experience."
"Our
good friends moved to Chicago & just purchased their
first home. We were planning a weekend trip to see
them & asked if they needed anything from 'back
home.' The only thing they wanted was Runzas , so
I stopped & got some frozen Runzas & took them to
Chicago. Our friends couldn't wait to have them
for dinner."
"It
was the end of the 1968 season and my first Nebraska
Football game. I was 9 years old and soooooo cold!
My Dad bought me 3 "piping hot" Runza's. One for
each coat pocket to keep my hands warm and 1 to
eat. The next year I attended my second Husker game
- Thanksgiving- Oklahoma - and when I put my hands
in my pockets the Runza's were still WARM!!! That's
my honest memory and that's my story and I'm sticking
to both of them!!!!" Bob
"When
I hear 'Runza' I think Ice Cream. I can't even remember
the first time I had Runza's Ice Cream, but I remember
the last. I was pregnant with baby number two and
I ate Runza Ice Cream at least two times a week.
Looking back I am glad I did b/c after my baby was
born we figured out she has a dairy sensitivity.
Well, since I am nursing her that means I have to
give up all dairy. The only thing I REALLY REALLY
miss is Runza Ice Cream. It is so creamy and yummy!!!I
can't wait to be done nursing my baby so I can have
Runza Ice Cream. Don't worry, I don't avoid Runza
completely. I can still eat the French fries (which
also are the best French fries) and the Grilled
Chicken Sandwich."
"My
most memorable Runza experience? Hmm lets see, well
I was in love with Runza from approximately August
1999 to April 2000, and from February 2003 to September
2003. And once again have fallen in love with Runza,
for the next 6 months that is!! I CRAVE runzas every
time I am pregnant. 3rd pregnancy and still drive
90 miles round trip for a runza every weekend!!
Actually I got on here thinking somebody told me
that you sell them frozen off your website, wow,
I thought there really is a God, but hmm, they must
of been pulling my leg.... :( "
"When
my husband told me we where moving from Bend, OR
back to Nebraska I was much less than pleased. I
did what any distraught person would do when faced
with this dilemma; I started to make of list of
pros and cons about moving to Nebraska and the only
thing on my pro side was Runza, and that's no lie!
As soon as we moved back, you can guess where we
ate as our kitchen lay in boxes. Every time someone
from out-of-state comes to visit, we always make
sure to take them to Runza. Thanks for making my
move back to the 'good life' not so bad!"
"I
just moved here from Massachusetts, and WOW , I
love Runza! I don't know how other burger places
keep their doors open with Runza in town!"
"I
moved from Lincoln to the Pacific northwest twelve
years ago. Two years ago my husband and I drove
the 1400 miles back to Lincoln for a visit. We started
stopping at Runza Drive-Ins in Scottsbluff and had
3 runzas a piece at 3 different locations on the
drive through the state. We brought frozen ones
back with us. I live in Spokane, WA and the tenant
in the next office to mine is from Lincoln also
(small world) so when either of us go back to visit
we are required to bring back some Runzas to share."
"My
three children, husband and I went to Runza for
a birthday celebration. As we ordered, my daughters
told the lady assisting us at the counter that it
was their birthday. They went on to tell her that
they came to "Wunza" (as they call it) for burgers
and ice cream. She wished them both a happy birthday
and helped deliver the food to our table. While
we were dining the lady who had helped us earlier
came out with ice cream and brought another Runza
associate with her to sing "Happy Birthday" to my
daughters. It was so nice of them! My girls loved
it! Great food and great people - that's why we
love Runza."
"My
boyfriend once spent $200, to have Runza sandwiches
sent to him in Virginia. He is having surgery Sunday,
and is putting an order in to have a friend pick
up and deliver Runza sandwiches to him post surgery,
immediately after waking up! He is having a 10 hour
long transplant surgery and I would love to surprise
him with a winning $25 Runza gift card."
"My
first experience with Runza was when my daughter
started attending the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
Being from outside the 'Runza Territory,' I had
never heard of it. During one of my daughter's first
calls home, she just raved about this new drive-in
restaurant she had 'discovered' and their wonderful
Runza Original Sandwich. On my first visit to Lincoln,
she insisted that we go to Runza for dinner. I could
definitely understand why. Now, every time she comes
home for a visit, she brings a sack of goodies from
Runza. For Christmas this year, I'm going to drive
to the nearest Runza (over an hour away) to buy
her Runza Gift Cards for her stocking. I know she'll
love that. Thanks, Runza, for a Christmas gift idea
that I know will be a big hit!!!"
"I
remember going to the Nebraska football games on
Saturday's with my grandpa when I was younger. Each
game we would get a Runza at the game. Ever since
my grandpa passed away I have to get a Runza on
each day of a Husker game to remind me of the good
old days with watching the football with my grandpa."
"I
live on the east coast and had never heard of a
Runza until a coworker from Lincoln was telling
us about them. They sounded interesting, but hard
to picture. On a trip back home she brought a box
full back with her and shared her goodies with us.
And she was right, they were delicious. Whenever
she went home to visit or had someone send her some
she would share them with my husband and I. This
was all over 20 yrs ago. She then moved back home
for good and Runzas become a fond memory with my
husband and I. This past spring she called to say
that she and her daughter were coming to NYC for
a trip and would like to see us. I told her I could
do one better than that and if they could stay a
couple of extra days they were welcome to stay with
us - But my husband told them only if they come
bearing Runzas! Imagine our surprise and delight
when we came home from running errands to find a
box of frozen Runzas sitting on our front stoop.
They were as good as we remembered them! Now I just
have to find a good hiding place for the last two
before my son comes home from college for vacation.
I gave him one to try a few weeks ago and he loved
it! We just wish they were available here in NY!"
"I
went to the concessions stands just before the start
of the Nebraska, Oklahoma football game approximately
22 years ago to order some Runzas, fries, and onion
rings. It turns out that I missed the opening kickoff
which Oklahoma ran back for a touchdown. However,
it was definitely worth the wait in line for the
food. It was so good, and I was so hungry that I
didn't care about the game anymore. I just wanted
the food." Sincerely, Tony
"I
went to Omaha, Nebraska for American Idol tryouts.
On the way, my brother told me about a little restaurant
that has the best sandwich and they are only in
certain states. I thought, oh whatever, we'll try
to stop. So, we got to Nebraska and tried one time
to get a sandwich and they were closed. My mom,
brother and I were disappointed. My mom didn't want
to stop again. A day or two later, we saw another
one on a different road. We decided to stop and
ordered the original Runza sandwich. I tell you
what, that was the best sandwich I have tasted in
a long time if not ever. My brother sure was right
to tell us to stop there. I am just mad that they
won't open any my way. I live in Michigan!!!!"
"It
was in Grand Island, NE at Fonner Park. My family
was there for some family event that they were having
and there were Runza stands. Everyone was super
hungry and when my dad asked if I would try a runza
I told myself I wouldn't like it... so I said no.
Everyone else was eating one and said how yummy
they were.... finally, I wanted one too. I was maybe
8 then. Later on we moved to Aurora, NE and we only
had three fast food places. There was McDonald's,
Pizza Hut and Runza.... we always went to Runza
and told ourselves that when we moved from Aurora
we would try other places. I live in Omaha, NE now
with my own family and I craved Runzas when I was
pregnant and now my favorite fast food place IS
RUNZA! My favorite it their Swiss mushroom runza!
YUM!"
"Of
all the times that I have experienced eating a Runza
sandwich, whether it was at the restaurant, at a
Husker basketball game at the Devaney Center, or
warming my hands up at a Big Red football game...one
most recent experience stands out in my mind. I
no longer live in Nebraska and crave the sandwich
so often. I brag about them to everyone. Everyone
includes my loving girlfriend who for my last birthday
had a half dozen Runzas shipped to our home in Las
Vegas, NV. She surprised me by inviting me home
for lunch and the aroma filled the house as I walked
through the front door. It was as if I was back
in Lincoln, NE...she had never eaten a Runza before
and let's just say it lived up to its expectations.
Every time we visit Nebraska it's an obvious favorite
and we love diving into a hot Runza and love them
all."
"It
was a freezing November day. The streets were super
slick my best friend and I were super hungry. I
said, 'Hey lets drive to Runza.' She said, 'Runza
is so far away but it's worth it. The food is so
good.' We went to Runza and I had a sweet berry
chicken salad. It was the best salad I have ever
tasted. My friend had a chicken strip combo with
ranch. Runza is the best place to eat at."
"My
most memorable experience was when my mom and dad
would take me to the first Runza restaurant on L
Street in Ralston in the early 1980s to buy that
delicious Runza Sandwich and a chocolate shake.
We would walk to Runza in the summer since we lived
only 8 blocks from Runza. As a 10 year old boy,
I loved the experience and the French fries were
the best and still are, hands down, the best fries
around. 27 years later my wife an I treat our two
kids to Runza, (the one in Millard) and they love
it as well and will hopefully share the same memories."
"On
a cold December night we were attending our son's
Freshman football game. As loyal parents we had
sat through many cold games but this one beat them
all. The temperature kept dropping as the game went
on. At the beginning of the third quarter the wind
kicked up even stronger than it had been bringing
freezing drizzle coming at us sideways By the end
of the game there was no one in the stands but the
loyal parents. All the boys on the sidelines hopped
from one foot to the other to stay warm. Even wrapped
in several layers, a warm coat and a sleeping bag,
we were numb with cold. The clock played out and
our team had won by a slim margin. What better way
to celebrate than getting some wonderfully warm
Runzas, crispy fries and wonderful chili. Almost
everyone from our team ended up at the local Runza
restaurant with the same idea. Warm food had never
tasted so good and we shared the camaraderie built
from cheering on our team in the worst of conditions.
Now when I think of football, I think of Runza."
"Most
memorable and most fun is when my husband and I
were in college. We would go there at night to eat
the awesome onion rings - yes we ate onion on our
dates - cause they were sooooo good and we would
play video games. I was a cheap date!"
"I
travel home to Omaha about twice a year and always
bring home frozen Runzas in my suitcase. (Amazingly
they always get through security safely.) Last week
I noticed I was "runzing" out of Runzas in my freezer
here in Pennsylvania. I hadn't scheduled my next
trip home to Omaha, so I began to panic. My husband
needs one every Monday to get off to a good start
for the week. So I contacted my sister, who lives
in Omaha, and she came to the rescue. She rushed
out, got a supply of frozen Runzas and shipped them
overnight USPS. What a relief! My husband is ecstatic
and my marriage is saved! Thank you, Runza."
"MY
2 SONS AGED 29 AND 34 LIVE IN CHICAGO NOW. EVERY
TIME I FLY THERE I TAKE A DOZEN FROZEN RUNZA'S IN
MY SUITCASE. THE LAST TIME I FLEW, MY SUITCASE WAS
4 LBS OVER WEIGHT. SO IN FRONT OF EVERYONE, I OPENED
MY SUITCASE AND REMOVED 4 LBS OF OTHER ITEMS THAT
HAD NO VALUE COMPARED TO MY KIDS LONGING FOR THEIR
FAVORITE RUNZA'S. I HAD VERY HAPPY KIDS THAT NIGHT
FOR DINNER, EVEN THE NEW WIFE.....!!!!!!!!"
"On
my wedding day, I had just gotten my hair done and
my bridesmaids and I had time for a quick lunch.
We stopped at Runza and got lots of strange looks
as I walked in with my veil on! The manager ended
up giving me my meal for free! It was a great way
to start my wedding day! Thank you, Runza!"
- Sara
"I
just started seeing this guy. We would always take
long walks and just talk. One night we were down
by Runza and I had asked if him he had ever had
Runza fries. He said no and I said you don't know
what you are missing... they are the best fries
ever. You haven't had fries until you have had Runza's.
Well, to make a long story short, we stopped in,
he bought the fries and we dined together. Still,
two years later, whenever we eat at Runza he brings
up our walk and the day we ate Runza fries."
"I
moved from Omaha to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. My
most memorable moment was the last Runza I had the
day I left Omaha. It had to be the best Runza I
had ever had. I can still close my eyes and relive
the moment - the taste, the freshness, and the thought
of how much I was going to miss my Runzas since
there are no Runza shops in Wisconsin. I'm homesick
for runzas :-(" William
"My
first Runza was at the 1984 Nebraska vs. UCLA game.
It was my first Huskers game, and since I lived
out of state at the time, it was my first exposure
to a Runza. It was the 2nd quarter, Mike Rozier
had just ran 20 or 30 yards on an option play, and
I told my dad I was hungry. He said, "No problem,
I'll get you a Runza." I was a pretty picky eater,
and at first skeptical, but when I saw what a Runza
was, and everybody else liking them, I took a bite.
I loved it! The bad part was that I lived in Northwest
Iowa at the time, and when I tried to explain what
a Runza was to my friends, they just didn't get
it and thought I was crazy. It was two more years
before I got to another Husker game, and another
Runza. Now I live in Omaha, and I married a Runza
lover... and I don't have to go to the game to get
a Runza!"
"OK,
this isn't about the Runza, it's about the ice cream.
I had forgot that Runza had ice cream until one
night when I was pregnant. I went to McDonald's
because it was close, being disappointed that all
they have there is vanilla. Well, their ice cream
machine was "broke down," then I looked across the
street and told my husband that I JUST remembered
that Runza had ice cream. We went across the street,
not only did they have ice cream, they had swirl
AND they had waffle cones!! I told my husband when
I wanted ice cream, he was supposed to remember
RUNZA. I don't know how many of those I had while
I was pregnant!! And they're still just as good
to this day..."
"When
I was in high school (I graduated in 1976) my boyfriend
would take me to Runza for lunch everyday. We always
got your Hamburgers with ketchup and pickle only,
but always ordered onion rings instead of fries.
I still miss those days. But as I got older, I tried
various Runza sandwiches and now I live in a state
where Runza is not available. My first stop when
I go "home" (Lincoln, NE) is Runza. I don't care
what time it is. And my last stop before I leave
is Runza also. There is not another place like Runza
anywhere!!!!! I brag about your food and tell people
who are going to visit your franchise area that
they have got to stop and taste your wonderful product.
I love your food and I guess that eating at Runza
during my high school lunch period is a memory that
I love to look back on. Not only was the food excellent
- but those were some of the happiest years of my
life!!!!!! RUNZA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!"
"When
I was a little girl, I always remember the times
my mom would take me to Runza on a school day, (school
was closed due to the cold weather) and she would
let me order two RUNZA sandwiches and o-rings, (cause
the 'temp outside was the price of a hot delicious
Runza Original Sandwich inside'). We used to sit
and watch through the window as the snow fell. It
was magical to me... yummy too!!"
"I
was at the Crete Runza on 7/10, the Columbus Runza
on 7/20, and have patronized several of the Lincoln
Runza locations as well as those in Fremont and
Seward since returning to and retiring in Lincoln
last October. Having been away these last 8 years,
I am thrilled to note that your quality control
remains outstandingly high (unlike some other Lincoln
eateries that are now coasting on their reputations).
As a creature of habit, I tend to get the same thing
(the double cheeseburger combo with maybe an extra
soup or an added dessert from time to time) and
I'm NEVER disappointed. Having lived in Lincoln
previously for 12 years and in Boston for 23, I'd
say Runza has maintained its standards as ferociously
as Legal Seafoods back east. I hope you'll always
stick to and maintain your core menu. It's sure
a winner with me."
"Our
daughter attends college in Texas. She loves cheese
Runzas, but of course, there are none to be found
down south. She loves telling her southern friends
about this wonderful, unusual baked sandwich. On
our drive down to see her for Christmas vacation,
I was thinking of how often she has said upon our
arrival, 'Did you bring me Runzas?' So we stopped
at the LAST Runza in southern Nebraska and bought
her two cheese Runzas. We carefully put them into
a large plastic bag and kept them in our cooler.
Upon arrival in Texas, we found we had brought her
the best Christmas gift of all: RUNZAS!"
"My
most memorable 'Runza Fix' was when I delivered
my twin girls. I went in to the hospital about 7:00
am. Made all my calls to family while driving there.
Delivered at 9:01 & 9:02. When I got to my room
after all this and family had left, I was starved.
But it was too late for my husband to go to Runza
as they were already closed. So the next day my
wonderful husband stopped at Runza on his way back
to the hospital. Hospital food as we all know is
very bad, but oh how the fries and my still hot
Runza tasted and smelled so good. All the nurses
were stopping by our room asking what we were eating!
Runza made my hospital stay more enjoyable. The
only things better than a Runza & Fires were my
beautiful baby girls, Reese & Reagan."
"I
grew up in Nebraska and always remember going to
the Runza establishment in Lincoln on Hwy 2. I moved
to Missouri to attend college. One day I was sitting
in my dorm room definitely craving a Runza. I asked
my roommate if she knew what a Runza was since she
was from St. Louis. I had to explain to her this
magnificent food! We decided to go down the hall
to another friend's room to see if they had ever
heard of this phenomenon. Of course since they were
from the opposite side of the state, they had never
heard of it. The four of us decided to hop in my
car and drive to the nearest Runza in Nebraska (only
about an hour and 15 minutes away). They all fell
in love with the Runzas. Now we joke about the time
we took a random road trip to Nebraska one evening
to experience the goodness of Runza!"
"RUNZA
has been such a big part of my childhood. My whole
family would go to Runza for lunch everyday during
the Lancaster County Fair in Lincoln, NE. As a child
I would actively watch the temperature outside to
see what the price of a Runza would be, (back in
the day of the Runza winter weather promotions).
When I started dating if the guy didn't like Runza's
or chose a different fast food restaurant over a
Runza - he was OUT! Sadly, I had to leave Nebraska
and moved to Colorado. But once my Runza-loving
husband and I found out we had a Runza 25 miles
from my house we make a special effort to drive
to Loveland, CO and treat ourselves to a Runza as
often as possible. We are the world's biggest Runza's
fanatics! 'Runza. Food just like Grandma use to
make!'"
"My
favorite memory of Runza is at a Husker football
game on a chilly Saturday in Lincoln. Nothing beats
having a hot Runza in your hand and enjoying the
taste, the smell and watching Husker football. Runza's
are also a longtime family favorite. Keep up the
excellent work RUNZA!!"
"My
son worked for a rather large printing company in
NV. After finding out the trucks that supply the
ink come from/thru Lincoln, he had the drivers bring
him Runza's on their monthly trip. Of course he
would share with his mom..."
"My
girl friend dreamed you brought the Italian Runza
back and she was eating it. When will you bring
this Runza back?"
"I
used to live in Western Nebraska and have since
moved out of the state. There are so many things
that I miss about Nebraska - Go Big Red, the friendly
people and most of all the RUNZA! A couple of times
a year we will head back into Nebraska and we eat
at Runza at least once a day AND before we leave
town we always get 1 dozen regular and 1 dozen cheese
Runzas to go to take back home with us. (We freeze
them and have them for lunches at work!) I also
miss the fact that every time we have gone to a
Runza they have had the friendliest employees. Seems
like anymore you do not get the best customer service
at Fast Food Places. But Runza is the Exception!
We have even driven 30 miles out of our way - just
to eat at Runza! Please, please, please - come to
Sioux Falls, SD! My family misses you!"
"I
am from California and I just moved to Nebraska
after having a taste of a tasty, delectable, hearty
Runza stuffed sandwich. I now eat Runza at least
once a day. Not only does it make me fell good it
keeps my body balanced. Thanks for making my day...
everyday. GO BIG RED!!!"

What
is your most memorable "Runza experience?"
"Oh
I just have fond memories of going to Runza on my
lunch hour during High School with my friends (Lincoln,
NE). My favorite is the original Runza meal. I would
always get extra ranch dressing to dip my fries
and Runza in as I ate it. I live out of State now
(MS) and we do not have a Runza here. I do miss
it. But I do stop in when I return to any area that
has a Runza. I really think that someone should
bring a Runza down this way."
"Any
time I can make it back to Lincoln, NE. Where my
mom lives , which is only twice a year I always
pick up 50 Runzas to take home (back to Seattle).
If only there was a Runza hut here in Seattle...
Any time is a good time for a Runza. Great on a
Sunday watching Nebraska football."
"Sad
but true we do not have a Runza restaurant in Topeka
- the nearest one is Lawrence. So a co-worker promises
she will pick up Runza's for us. Luckily she forgot
to ask one of the co-workers if they wanted a Runza
so a week or two later she had to make the run again
out of guilt. Unfortunately this time she went around
the department and asked each of us if we wanted
Runza's so I guess we will just have to plead with
her to make the next trip. Runza road trips are
not an uncommon practice here in Topeka. It might
be 30 miles but well worth the trip."
"I've
always have loved a good Runza Sandwich. I even
remember the first bite I had ever taken of a Cheese
Runza on a warm July day, but my love of Runza continues
to grow. Regrettably, I had taken a trip with Dad
and brother to Arizona, which you all know has no
Runzas. We were supposed to stay there longer but
I insisted that we leave for one reason or another
but secretly I really needed a number 1 - a Cheese
Runza, Crinkle Fries, and a Pepsi. As soon as we
got back to Nebraska, even though we live near Lincoln,
we stopped at a Runza in the first town that had
one along the interstate. There is nothing like
the experience of eating a freshly cooked Runza."
"Runza
has always been my favorite food joint. The smell
of the food when I walk through the doors tantalize
my taste buds every time I always seem to have a
problem deciding what food to order due to the fact
that I love to order: Runzas, salads, onion rings,
and the most delicious fries on the planet! I often
find myself ordering a berry salad, to keep a healthy
diet, even though I must order a large fry with
it. Runza fries seem to melt in my mouth the instant
they reach it. Not a day goes by without me longing
for some Runza french fries!"
"My
most memorable Runza experience was finally going
to one! I am not from around Nebraska, actually
I am from Washington State, and we don't have Runza
there. Everyone has always told me how I MUST try
it because it is a rite of passage when you come
to Nebraska for college! I finally got the chance
to experience the Runza goodness when a native Nebraskan
took me and even bought it for me. It was utterly
amazing. It was unlike anything I have ever tried
before. I am officially in love with it and the
$25 gift card will come in handy when I go there,
which is frequently!! I will be very sad to leave
for the summer, but I can guarantee I will most
certainly work up quite the hunger for it by August
10th, when I come back for school!"
"Whenever
my Sister's family comes to town, it seems that
we inevitably end up at Runza. My sister and her
husband have six children. My most memorable time
was when we had all just finished eating our meals
and the kids were all going up to get their ice
cream cones. Colten, who was 4 years old at the
time came back with his ice cream cone with the
biggest smile on his face and he was so ready to
eat his ice cream! Well, he took a bite and accidentally
knocked the rest of the ice cream on to the floor.
He got the saddest look on his face and said "Oh
no, now what am I going to do I guess I just don't
get any ice cream and everyone else does." Of course
this broke my heart, so being the wonderful aunt
I am, I went up to pay for a new cone, but the help
was so nice, they insisted on just giving us a new
ice cream cone, and then they came and cleaned it
up and even joked around with us. That is a story
that lives in my heart because I know that even
if cool aunt Britteny hadn't been there to pay for
a new cone, Runza takes care of their customers."
"My
wedding day was May 7, 1977. We had the usual punch
and cake at the church after the service. Since
funds were very limited, we had a few friends over
afterward for pizza and beer and music. After everybody
went home, except my best friend and her husband,
we jumped in the car in our wedding clothes and
made a dash for Runza Hut before they closed. No
Runza has ever tasted as good as the one that night.
It was the perfect ending to a perfect wedding day!!
I have since moved to St Paul MN but every time
I come to Omaha for a visit, I have to stop at least
once (and usually more than that) for my dose of
Runza Hut food. Every time I'm there I fill out
one of the questionnaires begging you to open a
franchise in St. Paul but so far no luck. I guess
I will just have to keep making the long trip to
Nebraska when the craving gets too much to bear."
"I
was eating with a coworker at the location on 132nd
when I looked out the window and saw my wife sitting
in the drive thru. I asked the person behind the
counter if I could serve her meal to her through
the drive through window, and when she drove up
and I said 'That will be $6.45 please.' It was very
funny."
"My
wife and I were looking to move to a new apartment.
There were two places that looked good to us. One
had a Runza across the street. Guess which one we
picked? Now I can get a hot fresh-made Runza whenever
I feel the craving without even getting in the car!
Keep it real Runza; no one else makes 'em and they'd
probably mess 'em up if they did."
"My
most memorable memory at Runza is when I ran into
a long lost childhood friend I haven't seen for
years, we saw each other at the Runza and each of
us knew who the other was even though it had been
about 15 years since we saw each other. We started
dating and now we are married, and have three great
kids. Thanks Runza for changing my life for the
better."
"Our
son, Steven, attended Nebraska Wesleyan University
and while in Lincoln he became a 'Runzatic.' He
now lives in Dallas, Texas. When he flies into Omaha
to visit us we always have to stop first thing at
a Runza Restaurant on the way home from the airport."
"I'm
a senior in High School and had been struggling
to decide where to go to college. Sadly there aren't
any Runza's near Kansas City so I don't get to eat
them often. When I visited the University of Nebraska
at Lincoln a Runza was one of the first things I
saw. I was visiting with my mother, a friend, and
my friend's mother. I immediately made my mother
pull into the Runza for dinner. I couldn't convince
my friend to try the Runza, but she did really like
her hamburger (Don't worry I made her try one when
we were in Lawrence one day). I also made my mom
stop by on our way out of town, and getting Runza
two days in a row was a big factor in my decision
to go to UNL next fall, a decision I have yet to
regret."
"I
remember when I was younger and my parents would
take me to Runza for ice cream and hamburgers after
my baseball and basketball games. Now, they still
take me when I come home from college. We still
enjoy coming and eating the hamburgers."
"We
were coming back from our Caribbean Cruise with
Princess Cruise Lines. Elegant dining every night
and day. Room service 24 hours a day. All these
fantastic meals they serve and all we were dreaming
of was when we get back home to stop and get a Runza,
fries and onion rings. As we approached Epply airport
all we could do was check our watches. If the women
get the bags and the guys get the vehicle, we can
get to Runza before they close. Fancy meals at this
moment did not compare to a Runza fix! We pulled
up with 5 minutes to spare. Naturally we did the
drive thru. We did not want to go inside and make
the workers wait for us. Home and Runza - what a
combination after a week of 7 course meals. We will
do it again next year, but will make sure we arrive
at Epply airport in plenty of time again to get
our RUNZA Fix. Thanks Runza for GOOD food!"
"In
1965 I moved to Nebraska to enter Nebraska Wesleyan
University in Lincoln. Just after my arrival, I
met another person who had grown up in Seward, Nebraska
and had an affinity for Runza sandwiches. I was
invited to try one and now in 2007 I still cannot
get enough. I remember that, with limited funds
like most college student, Runza would run specials
on their sandwiches from time to time. If the company
ever figured out how many we purchased to eat and
freeze for future occasions, they would have assumed
that we were setting up our own Runza business.
WHAT A CHEAP FRANCHISE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN! Keep
up the good work. And by the way, thanks to the
person who set up a Runza business in my hometown
of Loveland, Colorado. I just wish they would have
done it sooner so that I could have enjoyed the
sandwich while growing up. Thanks again, Mike"
"I
LOVE Runza! I recently moved, and the nearest Runza
is 3 hours away. I'm pregnant and crave Runza constantly...
I'm planning a trip once a week to go get my "fix"
(Runza Chicken Strips, FF, and TWO cups of yummy
ranch)! The ranch dip is FANTASTIC! I have to eat
in the car b/c when I'm done with my Chicken strips
and fries, I DRINK the ranch dip and lick the cup
out! It sounds gross, but I don't care! Ohhh! Yummy!
I'm SO HUNGRY!"
"Had
to drive from Abilene, KS to Milwaukee, WI. Originally
from Washington, KS, 50 miles South of Beatrice
NE. (When living there we would drive to Beatrice
to eat at Runza.) Anyway I planned the trip to pass
through Beatrice both ways so I could stop in Beatrice
to eat at Runza. Mapquest recommended going through
Kansas City. No Runzas in Kansas City. Added and
hour or so to the trip. However it was worth it."
"The
very first time I ever tasted a mango smoothie.
I closed my eyes and I felt like I was lounging
on a beach with the warm sand under my toes. When
I opened my eyes, I was in my car in the parking
lot, with the heat on high to block the frigid air,
feeling the sun shining on my face through the window.
What can I say? I live in Nebraska and EVERYONE
knows what winters are like here. Bur your smoothies
bring a little bit of tropic to my life in the middle
of winter! Thanks, Runza"
"My
work took me to many places in the United States.
I found myself transplanted in Colorado Springs,
CO. My boss and I were native Nebraskans, we discussed
all the things we missed back home... from the small
town icons, farming backgrounds and the gentle Midwest
hospitality. One of the fondest things we missed
were Runza's. Reliving eating Runza's on game day
in Memorial stadium, to catching the best deals
when they sold them for the cold temperature of
the day. We were having a special meeting at work,
and our staff wanted to try these Runza's we so
fondly talked about... so we had 2 dozen shipped
out to us. They were as delicious as we remembered!
Our staff also fell in love with them.... now that
we are both back in Nebraska, we have to periodically
ship some back to Colorado. Runza's are a part of
Nebraska, and the Midwest hospitality!"
"I
first discovered the wonderful taste of Runza in
good old Norfolk, NE. I was in grade school at the
time, and it was the talk of the town. 'A sandwich
which mysteriously has meat on the inside of the
bun!' When I sunk my teeth into the freshly made
hot Runza I knew I was hooked. I have enjoyed the
variety of Runzas and have declared the Mushroom
Swiss Runza my favorite to date, but can always
go with the traditional Runza sandwich."
"I
lived in the Sandhills of Nebraska for over 20 years.
I can't remember the first time I tasted a Runza,
but once I'd tasted one, I was hooked! Every time
we got to North Platte, Kearney, or Gothenburg I
had to stop and have at least the fries, if not
a whole meal. Now we live in Lincoln and I can stop
at Runza any time I like. I always stop on the way
home from my computer class since it ends at noon,
and what better time to have a Runza! Life is good."
"As
I child, I would ride my bicycle 3 miles and use
my baby-sitting money to get lunch on days when
school was out."
"When
I moved back here from Kansas City, MO and for the
first six days I was back I ate Runza EVERYDAY.
I loved and savored every bite I took and realized
how much I had missed it."
"A
long time ago (years and years) when I was dating
my girlfriend Kim, whom I am now married to, we
didn't have a lot of money. Our one year anniversary
of going together was coming up and I knew we couldn't
afford an expensive meal. Kim told me she would
cook me something delicious. When I arrived at her
house she had purchased several Italian Runzas for
me, which were and are still my favorite, along
with a big bag of onion rings. That was quite a
surprise and I still remember that as one of the
best anniversary meals I ever ate."
"As
an 8th grader in Omaha, my friends and I had been
told there was this hamburger place that had great
fries (120th & Center Street). We lived close enough
that we would walk there, just to have the fries,
and then by chance, discovered the Runza sandwich!
This was 33 years ago and today Runza sandwiches
are my favorite. I generally order a cheese Runza
and Frings and still think Runza fries are hard
to beat."
"For
my graduation party, I told my mom I didn't want
anything else but runza food served. She told me
that we were having sandwiches and cake instead.
Disappointed I told her again to get frozen runzas
but still no luck. A few days later a buddy and
I were getting lunch at Runza, when my mother walks
in. I ducked so she wouldn't see me in there and
I could hear her making the order for the mini runzas!
I couldn't believe it, how ironic! On graduation
day my mom surprised me with the news, and not to
spoil the moment I acted like I didn't know. I ate
great food and opened lots of gifts too."
"I've
been to the USA and Nebraska two times. I could
eat a Runza three times a day. We need to have a
Runza in Kenya. I thank my friend Leroy for introducing
me to Runza. - Bernard"
"I
am obsessed with Runzas, and have been for many
years. I have so many memories. As a kid, my family
lived near a Runza. We would walk down to Runza
for dinner every Wednesday. As I got older and moved
off to college I missed my Wednesday runza dinners.
I recently convinced my roommates (whom are now
hooked on Runzas as well) to come to Runza with
me every Wednesday for dinner. College is now my
official home away from home - thanks to Runza!"
"After
eating Indian food for two weeks straight while
on a family vacation to India, all I could think
about was getting home to eat a Runza. Even though
Indian food is my favorite, Runza tasted that much
better when I got home!"
"In
1995 I moved from North Carolina to Kansas City,
and was the District Manager for Honda in the motorcycle
division covering Kansas and Nebraska. My first
trip through NE I went to Runza in Hastings. I became
addicted immediately. Over the next 4 years, I ate
at every Runza in the state, plus the lonely KS
location (Lawrence). But the Hastings Runza is the
'one'.... In 1998, I had just received a new Honda
shirt - a light-blue denim long sleeve button-down
- to wear on my dealer visits. It was the first
day out of the package for the new shirt, and it
happened to be freezing cold that day. Back then,
the 'deal' was that a Runza cost whatever the low-temperature
was for the day...awesome!!!...so the Honda dealer
(Ken) and I sent a guy to get some. We sat down
in the back room to enjoy our stack of mushroom-swiss
Runza's, and I grabbed the MUSTARD and gave the
bottle a good shake. THE TOP WAS NOT SCREWED ON!!!!!!
Mustard flew everywhere, and a big streak splashed
across my new blue shirt like a big yellow school-crossing-guard
safety belt! But those steaming-hot delicious Runzas
were so damn good, I didn't care one bit. And though
that shirt was permanently stained (the mustard
faded the blue into a aqua-greenish-bluish weirdness)
it became my "Runza Shirt". I still have it, and
still crave a Runza every time I wear it - which
is every Fall when I come back to the Midwest to
hunt pheasant and quail. My friends know...we leave
the airport and head to Runza (Nebraska City or
Lawrence) - ASAP. I'll see you in November! "
"Runza
is so popular at my work that at one time it even
merited a spot on the "What's For Dinner Wheel".
Working the 3:00 to 11:00 shift, a cheese runza,
fries or chili were a staple at least once a week
for a crew - one of the few things I miss about
shift work!"
"Jeff
and I had been together for 2 1/2 years. We had
just donated the huge tree in our yard to the Salvation
Army for it's Tree of Lights Christmas campaign
in the Omaha area. They wanted to give us a plaque
with an inscription of 'Mr. and Mrs. Kaufman', which
we weren't, yet!! So on 11/13/2004 to make the plaque
'legal' Jeff and I decided to get married. When
we left the court house we decided we should celebrate
with a nuptial meal. We went to Runza and we didn't
use the drive thru as we usually did - this was
a special occasion, so we went inside. Each of the
last 2 years we have celebrated our anniversary
by going to Runza and sitting at the same 'nuptial
table'."
"It
was my sister's freshmen year of college. She left
home to attend the University of Northern Iowa.
She had a professor who used to teach at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln and they bonded because they
both missed Runza's food. One weekend, my parents
and I planned to visit my sister and her professor
asked if we would bring up 3 dozen Swiss Cheese
Mushroom RunzaŽ Sandwiches and 3 dozen Cheese RunzaŽ
Sandwiches. The manager of the Runza was nice enough
to open the store at 6 am so that we could leave
at the time we wanted to and pick up the Runzas
for my sister's professor. Talk about Customer Service!!!
Needless to say, my sister got an A in the course.
Thanks, Runza!"
"My
first memorable Runza experiences came about by
the work of my mother. My dad worked 7 days a week
for several years. As a special treat, mom and I
would swing by the 78th and L St Runza to pick lunch
for us and my dad. There was nothing better than
waiting in the station wagon at my dad's work and
to see him cross the parking lot to come and sit
in the car and eat lunch with us. My second most
memorable Runza experience happened when I moved
out of my parents house. After a tiring day of moving,
my dad opted to go grab us some dinner. He came
back with Runza! There we sat on the carpet in the
dining room eating our Runza. Oh the memories!!
Thanks Runza. - Sandy"
"My
boyfriend (now husband) and I stopped at a Runza
in Lincoln on the way to a wedding reception (he
was a groomsmen). Cold, cute sandwiches were to
be served at the reception and we knew a good meal
from Runza would be much more filling! I am not
sure how many people in tuxedos walk into Runzas
everyday, but I know that day, he was the only person
I saw in a tuxedo at Runza! Now, every time we drive
by that specific Runza, we always talk about that
day eight years ago! "
"I
love Runza hamburgers with ketchup only. The best
memory I have is after studying for days for college
finals, my mom called from the parking lot of our
Runza & asked how many hamburgers I needed. I ordered
3 - with ketchup only & waited for her at the front
door. The hamburgers are the best! "
"My
favorite story about Runza's is that we used to
have them as a special treat when out parents would
have 'card night' 30+ years ago. I can remember
going with my father to the Runza Drive Inn restaurant
in Bel Aire Plaza near 120th & Center and picking
them up. I can even remember the price. For a "runza
special" which was a regular runza and fries it
was $1.19. With tax, I think it came up to $1.25
even. Runzas always bring back special memories
of spending time with my father. Now Runzas are
part of my special time with my children. After
dentist appointments, we always stop at Runza for
lunch. Now I find myself purchasing frozen Runzas
for friends of ours that went to UNL and have since
moved to California. They love coming back for the
Husker games, but when they fly into Omaha, we find
the first Runza on Farnam Street and satisfy their
hunger! "
"Dear
Runza, once a week when I pick up my son Alex from
school, I ask him where he would like to eat lunch
that day. He's 3 years old and tries to mumble out
the word 'Rumsa.' So we head to our neighborhood
Runza where he has the same cheeseburger kids meal.
While we are waiting for the meal, he takes his
chocolate milk to our favorite seat by the window,
facing the street, so we can watch the big trucks
go by as we enjoy our meal. Like father like son,
I too always seem to get the same items, and our
bill seems to always come to $8.52. When we drive
by the Runza, he always points to the restaurant
and I always say, "Yep, that's where we sit and
have lunch together." It always brings back good
memories of my son and I sharing our favorite lunch
together when I think of Runza. - Andy & Alex"
"I
love runzas food. I could eat it every day and not
get sick of it. But there's also something else
I love - my wife, who I met while she was working
at Runza in Omaha Nebraska. I thought she was beautiful
(even in the uniform). I came back frequently to
eat the great food and to see her, over a couple
weeks I got up the courage to ask her out and she
said yes, we have been together ever since. She
also loves Runza. She talks about it all the time.
Anytime we visit her family she has to stop there
no matter what. Thanks Runza for being great at
all you do and for helping me to meet the love of
my life...my wife!!!"
"Last
week I had Runza for lunch and dinner for a whole
week, its all I ate. It was the greatest week of
my life, I love Runza SOOOOO much. I mean, they
do have the greatest hamburgers in the whole world.
I only have one question. Runza, when will you have
breakfast? - Kevin"
"I
have two most memorable Runza visits. The first
one was in 1996 (we still have the receipt in the
baby book). It was the first time we went out to
eat after our first child was born. We made a conscious
effort to choose Runza as his first restaurant -
to write it in the baby book. We dined at the 27th
& Superior Runza. It was quite a change to be eating
out as parents with an infant in a carseat! The
second most memorable visit was in 2000. We had
just taken our newborn, second child, to his first
doctor's appointment and decided to eat before returning
home. We ended up going to Runza at 70th & Van Dorn.
Not until we were eating, did we realize that our
second child now had the same first eating out experience
as our first. During my pregnancy with our third
child in 2004, I had to lower my salt intake. I
gave up eating out all together, except for Runza.
Once a week I would allow myself a Runza burger
- always ordered with no salt. In true fashion,
when the third child arrived, we don't remember
the first restaurant in which she dined. It was
probably Runza, because Runza is always a family
favorite."
"My
most memorable Runza experience involves running
Cross Country in college in Lincoln. The Runza was
about 1/2 mile from campus and our coach would religiously
begin each practice by instructing us to warm up
running to "Runza and back." On really hot days,
we would run into the restaurant before heading
back to campus to get a few ice cubes to cool ourselves
down. After our work out was complete, we'd often
shower and head over to Runza again - this time
by car - and enjoy a Runza and onion rings. To this
day, whenever I see a Runza restaurant, I think
"To Runza and back!" "
"This
one is from the baby book: 12/23/1999 - "Tyler (dob
02/27/1999) ate his first cheeseburger! Went to
his first visit at Runza (at 70th & Van Dorn, Lincoln)
with mom, and he ate almost the whole thing!" P.S.
Today is 09/06/06, and it was Tyler's choice for
dinner tonight - he chose Runza. Still
